How To: Turn On Two Factor Auth Instagram

One of the principles of Tech Geek and More is to make tech easy. For that, Today’s post will cover How To: Turn On Two Factor Auth Instagram. We just want to make sure you have the knowledge to protect your online presence. In recent posts, we have covered adding two factor auth for Facebook and Twitter, this just continues that process.

What Is Two Factor Authentication

For those who haven’t seen any of the other posts about Two factor authentication, it is an additional step you can add as a security feature. If you set up two-factor authentication, you’ll be asked to enter a special login code or confirm your login. This will happen each time someone tries accessing Instagram from a device that Instagram doesn’t recognize.

Setting Up Two Factor Authentication

With Instagram, when you turn on two-factor authentication, you will have a choice to have either a text message (SMS) codes or to use a third-party authentication app to confirm your login.

  • To turn on text message (SMS) login codes for your mobile phone:
  1. Go to your profile and tap
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll down and tap Two-Factor Authentication.
  4. Tap next to Text Message.
  5. If your account doesn’t have a confirmed phone number, you’ll be asked to enter one. After entering the phone number, tap Next (iPhone) or on (Android).

Keep in mind that you must have a confirmed telephone number for your Instagram account to use text messages (SMS) two-factor authentication. When you enter a telephone number to turn on two-factor authentication, it becomes the confirmed number for your account.

  • To use a third-party authentication app for login codes:
  1. Go to your profile and tap
  2. TapSettings.
  3. Scroll down and tap Two-Factor Authentication.
  4. If you haven’t already turned two-factor authentication on, tap Get Started.
  5. Tap next to Authentication App, then follow the on-screen instructions.
  6. Enter the confirmation code from the third-party authentication app to complete the process.
